On August 11, 2018, on a warm Saturday afternoon at the 104th Annual Meskwaki Nation Powwow, in central Iowa, I took photographs of a ttamakanetta-tetebatti or military helicopter.
Yes, we pay attention these days for the winged trio. In theory we believe the all-knowing visitors psychologically assessed our strengths and weakness. They knew we had a breaking point long before the first owl sounded off. Being a high-pitched singer then who could imitate screech owls I was asking for trouble. Essentially. In my youth my grandmother warned me not to imitate them as something bad might happen. And I was still a kid, at 30, in 1980. So, that door was eventually opened, with consequences. Hey, thanks for the comment. Reminds me where I have to go with Part 2.
Thanks for your interest, Josiah. An analysis of the Black Eagle Child novel chapter "The Supernatural Strobe Light" will be included hopefully in Flying Saucers Part 2. Especially the Fireflies who rose from the tree line that night to form a V pattern. There were six different manifestations, it took that many, to finally convince us to leave under the escort of a single, strobe light-flashing UFO. In 2015, The New Yorker published a non-adversarial perspective of Fireflies in a tribal word-song I composed. But my very first encounter with Fireflies was in Winter 1959 with my grandmother and younger brother. Where the story really begins.
I'm still befuddled by the childhood memory, Josiah, regarding this non-ordinary scenario. Your comment is absolutely correct: "Fireflies in winter. This will be interesting." My brother, Alan, recalls that night, and he was five years old then. He's due to retire soon from tribal casino surveillance. The contrast between wintry fireflies and me holding one of the letters for Xmas on the tribal school gymnasium stage was my introduction to Animism. My other thought in recent days has been, if Water Crane Flies mature in January, in Iowa, flying around, could Fireflies have bio-antifreeze as well that hasn't yet been discovered? And if they are in larvae form in mid-winter, as A.I. says, could Firefly adults watch them tolerating the cold weather?
I’m still worrying about those owls....

I don't see why not.
Ray, I love your stories! Thank you~
